
Sir Ian McKellen
Sir Ian McKellen, the knighted British actor is best known by movie goers in recent years for his role as the wizard Gandolf in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ film trilogy, and as Magneto in the ‘X-Men’ trilogy. The Tony award-winning actor performed at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota in Shakespeare’s 'King Lear' several years ago. Bonnett and I were fortunate to be in the audience for his extraordinary performance. Ian McKellen, now in his 70's, has also been a tireless gay rights activist, since publicly declaring his sexual orientation at age 49.
